Thanks to the geological catastrophe. It had collapse the `Rhine Graben´ and on the break-off edge the mountain peaks of the Palatinate forest were transported upwards. It came with a row of deep stone layers which are basis for our vines. Now, around Schweigen we are having massive layers of shell limestone. Fortunately for us, because it´s characterising the taste picture our wines. But there is another reason that the mountain landscape is a stroke of luck for us. It´s lying protective as a rejecting wall against west. This is mainly responsible for the compensated mild climate in this wine growing region.
