Positions from german winemakers (Schweigen) on french (Alsatian) ground
We are cross-border commuters of tradition!
At this point we want to explain you about the situation our best alsatian vineyards – Kammerberg and Sankt Paul. The german supervisor and service directorate (ADD) urged us under threat of purnishment not to call attention to our vineyard estates. From the point of view of ADD would this misleading our customers. The use of our tradition vineyard names made us a absolute ban on this wines for several months. We are forced with a couple of colleagues to apply for a cross-border guaranteed indication of origin. This is affecting the vineyards on french ground. The 160 hectares affecting vineyards which are cultivated and farmed from german (Schweigen) winemakers in Germany are allowed to call themselves officially german wine. But we can´t use our vineyard names like Kammerberg.
Long live europe!
